What is Kids Walk?

Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer is a family-friendly walkathon that supports pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. It is organized by high school and middle school students from numerous schools across the country. We publicize the need for more pediatric cancer research and fundraise in our communities, attracting more and more support for kids with cancer each year. So far we've raised over $1,320,000 since 2001!

How it all got started...

The Kids Walk began in 2001 as an 8th grade homeroom project at Packer Collegiate in Brooklyn, NY. One student's little brother was finishing a 3-year treatment for stage IV neuroblastoma at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, so the students wanted to raise funds to help cure pediatric cancer. The 8th graders raised $35,000, and they vowed to keep walking for kids with cancer! In 2002 the students recruited teams from six other NYC schools, and every year thereafter new teams and new generations of students have joined the cause. Now students and supporters of all ages are walking and raising funds not only in NYC, but in companion Kids Walk events across the country!

How and why are funds raised?

Walkers solicit support for pediatric cancer research by asking family and friends to sponsor them with a donation to MSKCC. Donors can donate online, or give walkers cash or checks written out to "Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center." Click Donate Now for more details.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Kids Walk support research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the world's oldest and largest private cancer center. MSKCC has devoted more than a century to patient care as well as to innovative research, making significant contributions to new and better therapies for the treatment of cancer. Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer funds research which is used to find new treatments for hard-to-cure pediatric cancers. Check out how our funds were used in 2010 and 2011.
