Please join us for the Kansas Kids Walk for Kids with Cancer in College Hill Park!!!
What, when, where? A 4-mile walkathon on May 12, 2012, 1:30 p.m. in College Hill Park, Wichita, KS, to raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
Who walks? Students, parents, teachers, co-workers, neighbors, teenagers and babies in strollers. The Kids Walk is organized by students from high schools throughout the area, but we hope “kids of all ages” will get involved!
Why we do it. The Kids Walk raises funds for pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center, located in New York City. And childhood cancer isn’t just a New York problem--it’s nationwide and right here in Wichita, Kansas. Several children in the Wichita area received treatment for their challenging cancers at MSKCC. The center is researching new and better cancer treatments for children, and 100% of our proceeds help develop these treatments. Treatments that can make children worldwide better. More about Walk day. Meet us in the park at 1:30! Sign-in and drop off your donations, buy an official tee-shirt for $10, and find your friends. There’s no fee to take part, but we ask walkers who don’t get sponsors to contribute $20. We’ll start walking on Circle Drive across from the pool--maps to be provided, but just follow us! The walkathon will be preceded by a short student program, and followed by snacks, music, and socializing. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle, an umbrella if it’s rainy, and some snacks to add to the snack table!
Directions for out-of-towners. College Hill Park is on Circle Drive, just 2 blocks south of Douglas Avenue, which runs east-west through the center of Wichita. Circle Drive intersects Douglas across from Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and is between the major streets of Oliver and Hillside (which run north-south). Parking will be available on the side streets. Follow the signs to meet us in the Park!
