Who walks? Students, parents, teachers, co-workers, neighbors, teenagers and babies in strollers. The Kids Walk is organized by a committee of students from over 50 NJ and NYC area schools, but we hope “kids of all ages” will get involved!
Why we do it. The Kids Walk raises funds for pediatric cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the world’s oldest and largest private cancer center. MSKCC is researching new and better treatments for children, and 100% of our proceeds help develop these treatments. Click here to learn about research supported by the Kids Walk!
How'd the NJ Kids Walk get started? Last year two teenagers from Old Bridge, NJ learned about the walkathon done annually by NYC students. The sisters’ five-year-old cousin Billy has been battling Stage IV Neuroblastoma and the impact of treatment since he was 13 months old. The girls decided to team up with friends and start a NJ Kids Walk, to help cure kids like Billy. Pediatric cancer foundation "Arms Wide Open" generously agreed to sponsor the event! The Walk was a great success, and now the students are organizing their 2nd annual event.
More about Walk day. Arrive by 9:30 a.m.! Turn in your donations, register if you haven’t registered online, buy an official tee-shirt for $10, and find your friends. There’s no fee to take part, but we ask all participants who don’t get sponsors to contribute $20. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle, an umbrella if it’s rainy, and some snacks to add to the snack table! The walkathon will be preceded by a short student program, and followed by snacks, music, and socializing. It’s a fun, family-friendly event to give hope to kids with cancer!
Registration is free, and it’s easy! We ask all participants to
register for the event. You can register online or on the day of the event.
Make a team and an online fundraising page! Get together a group of friends, classmates, co-workers or club members and register a team—or be your own team. When you register online, you’ll automatically create your own fundraising page, and you can also create and personalize a team page. Contact us with any questions or to get shirts and publicity materials for your team!
About fundraising & donations. We ask walkers to get sponsors, who can make a donation in any amount to support pediatric cancer research. Please donate $20 at the Walk if you don’t get sponsors! Participants can download some of our materials below to help with their fundraising. Donations can be made online, by checks payable to “Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, or in cash. Donations can be turned in at the Walk or mailed (all year long!) to:
